The Importance of Community and a Group Show
Community is so important!
It can lift you up and sustain you.
Art can do the same thing.
In the past week I have worked on a group show with the Frederick County Arts Association. I helped with receiving last Thursday, and we hung the show on Friday. Yesterday was the opening reception. The show is at the United Universal Congregation of Frederick (Maryland), Blanche Ames Gallery. The only way we can do this is with a dedicated group of people. And I am honored to be able to work with both FCAA and UUCF.
We had 33 artworks, 33 artists. And five members of the UUCF Volunteer Art Committee.
The show looks wonderful, all kinds of artwork: oil paintings, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, sculpture (one of those sold!), collage, multimedia, photography. Works went from 48x48" to 6x8". It is always a challenge to hang a show like this and we had fun doing it.
You cannot do this alone! Community! Working together, supporting each other. Laughing together.
Thanks to all that helped pull the show together, the artists who participated, and the audience who admired and discussed the work yesterday. Thank to the two artists who gave talks about their work. And now thank you to you for your patience in reading about it!
Here are a few images of the show:
